Have you ever been fired, sick, and completely reinventing your life — all at the same time? I have. And honestly, it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
At 26, I was running on four hours of sleep, three jobs, and pure stubbornness. I sold insurance, jewelry, and bartended — typically closing the restaurant at 2 a.m., going home for a few hours, then dragging myself into the insurance office before the sun was fully up. I worked all hours of the day, and yet, I never had enough money. Something had to give.

It was my dad who saw it first. He's a lifelong farmer — a man of few words and calloused hands — so when he pulled me aside and said, "You know you can do something else with your sales skills?" I listened. It was casual, almost offhand. But I knew he was nudging me towards real estate.
I got my real estate license in 2006. Now I had four jobs! The first year was a grind — same money, more hours — but by year two, something clicked. My business flourished, and I became hungry to grow. My goal was to become number one in my brokerage in gross commission. I was laser-focused.

What I didn't have on my calendar was cancer.
I was 26 when I got diagnosed, and for the first time in my life, I was deeply afraid. My treatment meant being hospitalized five days straight, every three weeks. And yet — IV in my arm, hospital gown and all — I had clients come to my room to finalize deals. My nurses thought I was out of my mind. Maybe I was. But nobody was going to stop me.

The insurance company eventually did, though — or tried to. They gave me a six-month medical leave and then let me go. It took me a full year to beat cancer, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, I got fired. Honestly? I wasn't even angry. I was done with corporate. I could feel that they were protecting the company, not the person. Getting fired was the push I didn't know I needed. I was thrilled to go full time into real estate and see my paycheck be a direct result of my effort.
Since then, the growth has been as much personal as professional. I've had to reconfigure my mindset — learn to think positively, not because someone told me to, but because I saw firsthand that it brings much better results. I remember one specific transaction where my negativity didn't help; I was overly focused on the details that weren't going my way, and that negativity ended up costing me that deal. I learned to let it go — to not dwell on the details that cause me stress, but rather focus on what is going my way. I learned to redirect my attention to what was working, and everything shifted.

My success as a REALTOR® has allowed me the time to focus on a cause dear to me: helping children. In 2025, I founded Fostering Hope For Second Chances, a nonprofit supporting foster kids — clothes, diapers, baby formula, the basics that every child deserves. It's grown so much that I recently purchased a building just to house it, which was a thrill. I also was involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, I spend time with kids with Down syndrome, and I have become a foster parent myself.
I never imagined that a late-night conversation with my dad would lead me here. But I think about that moment often — a tired kid with three jobs and a father who believed he could live with more ease. Everything that followed, the hard years, the diagnosis, the reinvention, it all led to something I'm genuinely proud of. Not just what I've built, but who I've become in the process.
I believe everyone deserves a great agent, regardless of price point. For over 20 years, that belief has driven everything I do. I've built a reputation for being honest, direct, and to the point. I don't sugarcoat, but I always have my clients' best interests at heart, guiding them every step of the way with steady support and clear direction.
With hundreds of millions in sales, I've developed expertise across a wide range of properties — from farmland and investment opportunities to residential across every corner of the state. I've built strong relationships with agents throughout the industry, and that rapport gives my clients a real edge when it matters most.
I'm a problem solver by nature. Life has taught me that obstacles are just detours, not dead ends, and I bring that same resilience to every transaction. I hold six professional designations that reflect my ongoing commitment to educating myself and staying sharp in an ever-changing market.
At the end of the day, I get the job done. My clients know they can count on me — not just for my experience, but because I genuinely care about the outcome as much as they do.
Sincerely,

Nicholas Scar
